Outbound Prospecting: How to Scale Cold Lead Gen
A tutorial on how to scale cold lead generation for B2B firms with annual contract values above $2k
Today we have a brand new tutorial called “Outbound Prospecting: How to Scale Cold B2B Lead Gen.”
We’ve found that B2B software firms (with ACVs > $2k) can use cold B2B outbound prospecting to generate an additional $2M to $4M of New ARR per year. It’s a great channel to complement ads, affiliates, partnerships, and tradeshows.
Below, I cover how to build a lead list, set up your inboxes, and write a sequence that generates awareness, clicks, and replies from your target market. Feel free to pass this along to your CMO/CRO/Head of Growth.

Outbound Prospecting Tutorial: How to Scale Cold B2B Lead Gen
Today I’m writing a quick tutorial for doing B2B outbound email prospecting the right way.
Building on last week’s post on how to build an ABM list of your target market, this week I’ll be covering what to do with that list of leads.
Once you’ve built your leads list (using tools like Instantly, Apollo, ListKit, etc.) then you can start sending out email sequences and showing matched audience ads to that audience. Just select the job titles, geography, industries, company sizes,
We recommend using Instantly to send out your outbound email sequences. Instantly makes it really easy to set up your email infrastructure (domains and inboxes) and to get verified leads. Don’t use your CRM tool as that will mess up your main site deliverability.
Here’s what Instantly’s Lead Finder looks like…
Once you have your leads selected, you can add them to an email sequence within Instantly. Be sure to set up 1 sending inbox for about every 1500 emails per month you want to send (50 emails per day is about the max you’d want). So if you want to to send a 5 email sequence to 10,000 leads per month that would be 50,000 emails per month and require around 33 inboxes. Instantly charges $5/month per sending inbox.
Here’s what Instantly’s Campaign Reporting tool looks like for a live campaign. We have different campaigns for every SaaS vertical. We usually see open rates between 25-50% and click rates between 3% and 25%.
In our email sequence, we alternate between going for replies with short punchy emails and going for clicks with short emails offering valuable PDF reports.

While Instantly makes it pretty simple these days to set up and warm up inboxes and domains with just a few clicks, if you don’t want to set up the sending system yourself, you can also get ListKit to set up the sending system for you for a setup fee of $2000 plus $500/mo.
What Results Can You Expect from Outbound?
If you sell B2B where your annual contract value (ACV) is at least $2k – it’s possible to make outbound work as a channel and depending on your niche you can add an extra $2M to $5M per year in new ARR through outbound. It’s a great complement to ads, tradeshows, and partnerships.
This outbound calculator will give you a sense of the results you can expect based on your ACV and conversion rates.
In most cases where ACV is $2k to $10k you can make the numbers for outbound to work profitably. And where ACV is $10k+, outbound always works (in our experience working with over 50+ B2B firms doing it).
What About LinkedIn and Matched Audience Ads?
And when you’re ready to add on LinkedIn reachouts, you can try HeyReach.
Finally, you can upload the CSV of your leads list into Meta, LinkedIn, Google, and Adroll and show targeted ads to the people on your outbound reach out list.
